We are proud to recognize Laura Gómez Nussbaumer, KCP Class of 1998, who has launched her book Make a Wish (Pide un Deseo), available on Amazon Kindle. Laura is a Psychologist from Universidad del Norte, with a Master’s in Education from Buffalo State University. The inspiration behind her book was born from the importance she felt it was to instill gratitude in her daughters.

Laura also has her personal brand, Sembrar en Tí (Sow in You) where she works on the emotional intelligence of children and teenagers.

We had the chance to speak to Laura about the inspiration behind her book and about her memories during her time at KCP.

Can please share with us the inspiration behind your book Pide un Deseo (Make a Wish)?

My experience as a school counselor has given me a clear idea of what needs do we have as a society. As parents, we are the biggest influence on our children. One day, I found myself thinking about how to teach my daughters about the value of gratitude. It is one of my main purposes as a mother, to teach them values that will then influence their life as adults. ” Make a Wish” is the story of a little bird called Emma, who compares herself with her friend Frank, and with all the material things he has in his life. Her mother then teaches her that the things that she should value the most, are not material things but love, health, and family.

How has your KCP experience impacted your life and the choices you have made in your career?

At KCP we were always invited to explore ourselves as individuals and to focus on our strengths, no matter what. I think my school made such a great impact in my childhood, giving me the best memories and inspiring me to strive wherever I go.

What advice would you give KCP students?

Never forget your values wherever you go. To stay true to themselves, and to work hard for their dreams.

What are some of your best memories or experiences from your time at KCP?

I have so many special memories. I feel so grateful to have had KCP as my school. I was a low average student, struggling with ADD, and I never felt school was a negative experience. The staff was so nice and supportive, I will never forget that. KCP was especially fun, and a nice place to grow up in. I remember that I loved going to the library. My class, (SENIORS 98), is very close to my heart. They are such a nice group of people, always caring for each other, and so fun to be with.

What makes you proud to be a member of the KCP community?

I feel proud to be part of a great community such as KCP. An excellent school that taught me so many life lessons, beyond academics.
