Ricardo Plata, Class of 2002 was named the Secretary of Economic Development of Barranquilla!

Ricardo is an Industrial Engineer from Universidad de los Andes and is a specialist in Business Management from Universidad del Norte.  In 2018, he received his Master’s Degree in Urban Economic Development from UCL in London. We talked to him about his years after KCP and how being a tiger has impacted his life, check it out:

Please tell us about your career progression after graduating from KCP.

After working more than 5 years in commercial and consulting roles for companies such as Procter & Gamble, Terpel and Dow Chemical, I transitioned to more public-private opportunities as Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean region for the Emerging and Sustainable Cities Initiative at Findeter, then as Executive Director for a business association in Barranquilla, and finally as the Executive Director for Corferias for the operation of the Puerta de Oro Convention Center. I then went to UCL in London for a Master’s degree in Urban Economic Development from which I arrived almost a year ago where I have been working with the City Manager in various projects.

Looking back, what are some of your best memories or experiences from KCP? How has your KCP experience impacted your life today?

At KCP, I made friendships that will last a lifetime and had the chance to grow up personally and academically in the best possible environment.

How did KCP prepare you for your career?

The school’s global outlook and the high level of English it imparts have been fundamental for my career growth.

What advice would you give KCP students?

Study hard, care for your city and choose a career path that inspires you.

Why are you proud to be KCP?

I am proud to be KCP because it educates citizens who care for their community.
