We proudly congratulate our Class of 1997 alumna, Paula Cayón, on her recent appointment as Program Director at Thom Mystic Valley Early Intervention (USA).

This program is part of Thom Child and Family Services, a well-recognized organization that provides early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental needs, along with comprehensive support and guidance for their families.

Paula is an Education professional who holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education from Cambridge College and brings over 15 years of experience in early intervention, special education, and leadership, making a meaningful impact on the communities she serves.

We also had the honor of interviewing her:

———————————————————

  1. How has the KCP experience impacted your life and career choices?
Attending KCP allowed me to be taught by excellent teachers who ultimately inspired me to pursue a career in the field of education. It also gave me a community of friends who continue to be part of my daily life.
  2. What inspires you the most in your line of work and career, especially your focus on helping others, particularly young people?
I have always been a helper at heart. Seeing the faces of parents and children every time we accomplished a goal for the first time was my main motivation. Now that I am in a leadership role, witnessing the amazing work that the clinicians I lead do every day keeps me inspired. I have built my career in early intervention, and working with the birth-to-three population allows me to impact children’s lives from the very beginning.
  3. What advice would you give to KCP students, especially those who would like to pursue a career path similar to yours?
Don’t put yourself in a box—think and look outside of it. Explore career paths that may not be the norm. It is incredible what you can discover when you take the time to explore different options. You would be surprised by the variety of work you can do if you simply do a little research. Think about the things that motivate you and ask yourself, How can I turn this into my career? Then go for it! Education is one of the most rewarding careers out there, and nothing will bring you more joy than seeing a child who may be struggling succeed.
  4. What are some of your best memories or experiences at KCP?
What I remember most about KCP is a feeling—a feeling of being home, of belonging. My best friends, who have become family, came from KCP. I also had amazing teachers who made a tremendous impact on my life.
