KCP Alumni Profiles, Publications

We want to highlight Carlos Acosta Juliao, Class of 1999, in his role as Secretary-General of the Alcaldía of Barranquilla.

Carlos Acosta is an Electronics Engineer from Columbia University. He has more than 14 years of experience in telecommunications and urban development in the public and private sectors.

Carlos was the Development Manager of Barranquilla and advisor to the district in the conceptualization and development of the Todos al Parque project and the structuring of the Siembra Barranquilla program.

Between 2015 and 2017, as the manager of Puerta de Oro, he executed the development and the structuring of important city projects such as the Gran Malecón of the Magdalena River.

Among the many projects he is working on, he is currently leading, together with the Secretary of Health and the Secretary of Development, a program designed to protect and reduce mortality rates of the elderly in Barranquilla during the pandemic.

Carlos shared with us some of his best experiences as a KCP student.

What are some of your best memories or experiences from KCP?

Some of my best memories and experiences from
KCP are science fairs, playing soccer with my friends, Math Olympics, basketball championship games, and Halloween festivals.

How has your KCP experience impacted your life today?

My KCP experiences have impacted my life in the leadership and social skills that they helped me develop. These have been skills that have proven to be invaluable in my life for all my goals.

What advice would you give KCP students?

I would advise KCP students that they get to know their city and see how they can get involved in its development. It is where we live and where we spend our time. Also, treasure your friends.

Why are you proud to have studied at KCP?

I’m proud to be from KCP because this institution represents the international citizens that we are and that we strive to be. We can do and achieve anything!
