Today, perhaps more than ever, parents play an essential role in their child’s education. They are an active part of the teaching and learning process, which can be challenging, combined with all the other tasks of providing for a family.
Many parents joined the Director of Teaching and Learning to learn more about how they can support their child in school. The focus of this session was the NWEA MAP® test that is administered twice a year during the Fall and Spring semester. The MAP test is a growth assessment given to grades 1–10 students that provides data to help teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead.
During this session, parents gained a better understanding of how to read their child’s MAP progress report so they can continue to support their child’s growth.

Teach – Learn – Grow
The MAP® Growth™ assessment is a computer-adaptive assessment that adjusts to each student’s responses to provide personalized results about what each student knows, is able to do, and is ready to learn next—whether on, above, or below grade level. The MAP Growth assessment provides essential information about a student’s continuum of learning and growth trajectory. MAP Growth provides real-time information that helps teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead. We administer the test in the fall and spring for a consistent longitudinal measure of student growth. It offers a clear picture of your students’ learning and readiness for college. One report that we can provide parents is the “Student Progress Report”. Just as the title says, this report shows a student’s term-to-term growth and can be used to compare a student’s RIT scores to the district’s average score, as well as to national norms. The report outlines for students and parents the particular areas of strength and concern within the subjects of math, reading, language, or science. This report provides essential information that can be used to improve both teaching and learning and to provide essential communication with parents.
