Parking Lot flow and Good Character
Starting next Monday, September 2, KCP will start implementing a new traffic flow plan that we hope will help ease the flow. We are asking that only students from Preschool to grade 2 (and their siblings) get dropped off in the old parking lot. Students from grade 3 to 12 must be dropped off in the new parking lot (please refer to to the diagram above). With your cooperation on this, we expect to see a better traffic flow. Please only park in designated parking spaces.
All vehicles that enter the campus must have a school sticker. Please see Ms. Silvana DeAndreis, in the Business Office for a sticker, if you do not have one.
Gate 7 is the entrance to the new lot, Gate 8 is the exit and you can turn right or left out of Gate 8. Gate 1 is the entrance to the old lot. You may only turn right out of Gate 4 but you may proceed to Gate 2 to turn left out of the old lot.
Together, Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M. KCP!)

Excelente trabajo, Go Tigers!

Last week we enjoyed an evening of music and talent during KCP’s Music Festival, an amazing competition that brings families and friends together year after year to celebrate young talent, bringing out the best in all the participating bands that came over from different schools, both nationwide and in Barranquilla.
This musical competition, now in its third year, has been possible thanks to our students who wanted to establish a yearly event of these characteristics, that would allow them to exhibit their talent and compete with other students.
The festival was a unique opportunity for these young groups to have an important and unforgettable artistic experience. This year, the competition brought together 8 school bands from Barranquilla and one from Pereira: Gimnasio Inglés, Colegio Altamira, Colegio San José, Berckley School, Colegio Galileo Galilei, American School, and KCP. Each band presented 3 rock or pop musical pieces that included interpretations of songs such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy and Pa’Maité, among many others.
We would like to recognize New Business, KCP’s band, for their hard work, discipline, and dedication over the past few months of intense rehearsals. The band was made up by students from grades 9 to 12, who had been designing their musical work for quite a long time, featuring strong female voices. They had the chance to demonstrate their interpretative skills in the electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums, among other instruments. Great work Tigers, you rocked!
Congratulations are in order for Gimnasio Inglés for winning 1st Place in this year´s Music Festival and to Colegio Altamira for winning 2nd place!

Drop Everything And Read Day
It’s that time of the year again when KCP celebrates its traditional Drop Everything And Read Day (D.E.A.R.)! Today, April 30th, we will be commemorating World Book Day (an international celebration created by the UNESCO in 1995) and Día del Idioma (or Spanish Language Day that commemorates the death of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra -author of “Don Quijote de la Mancha”) with Drop Everything And Read Day (D.E.A.R.)!
So here is what we all should keep in mind to be part of this bookish fun:
Today, everyone should always have a book on hand. (In other words, carry it with you at all times: lunch, bathroom breaks, hallway supervision, etc.). When you hear music play (This year we will be using Peter Pan music to stir excitement over our wonderful upcoming play!), stop what you are doing, open your book and start reading! When you hear music play again, it is time to stop reading and resume your normal activities. This will happen at random times during the day and each reading session will last no longer than five minutes. Everyone is invited to participate!
Office Staff: Remember that the idea is to have an entertaining book on hand. Reading work on your computer or reading work papers is a no-no.
Teachers: Please remind your students to have a book on hand! If you have scheduled a test for today and/or do not want interruptions, please let your students know they will have other opportunities to read in other classes during the day.

Our Housing Project, the main activity of KCP’s Community Service Program, took place this past Saturday, April 6th! Our students, staff members, and some parents visited one of the rural areas of Puerto Colombia to construct 8 homes for vulnerable families, with the help of Fundación Catalina Muñóz and the Alcaldía de Puerto Colombia authorities. This was an amazing learning experience for the more than 150 volunteers who built these houses, shoulder to shoulder with the new proud owners to help them forge the next steps of their future!
KCP interviewed some of the families who benefited from this project and each one was deeply moved by the idea of having a brand new home, upon which they can build to realize their dreams. These families only had words of gratitude and appreciation. Students also expressed how lucky they felt for having the chance to live this experience and said they were deeply moved by the precarious living conditions of some of these families.
This was the first year that KCP worked along with Fundación Catalina Muñóz in this wonderful project, that has been providing hundreds of families around Colombia for more than 10 years with dignified homes that have, both, concrete walls and floor and aluminum windows and doors to withstand the hardships of weather and time.
“This activity is a part of our Character Counts! And Community Service Program. We are doing this to help others so students understand that the values you have are the values you have to apply in life”, said Ms. Horbal, the School’s Director during the activity.
“For us, I have to say, this is an amazing opportunity. The thankfulness of the families is amazing and for us as a learning institution, this is an opportunity to see another side of life and how it is for the majority of people around the world. It is a chance for our students to develop compassion and character,” added Joseph Levno, KCP’s Secondary Principal.
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and to everyone who made this dream possible! GO TIGERS!
