Exciting Student trips to UniNorte
KCP’S STUDENT CENTER: LET´S DREAM OF THE POSSIBILITIES TOGETHER
Our 21st Century Student Center will soon have the wonderful cafeteria we’ve been waiting for and we must all dream and work together as a community to discover how to take full advantage of all it will have to offer! IT´S UP TO US!
STUDENT VOICE MATTERS
To ensure that our students will feel satisfied with the food and service that will be provided, KCP has teamed up with DuNord, the expert team at Universidad del Norte, in charge of all the restaurants, food and beverage services, that the University offers to its more than 18,700 members (DuNord serves 3,000 people per day). Together, we have designed a comprehensive nourishment plan for KCP and we are very pleased with the results!
In this spirit, a group of students from each grade level was chosen to visit the Uninorte campus during lunchtime to help provide feedback on the future menu and choices offered in the Student Center.
The school is working hard to make sure we can all make the most of this great investment that will make our KCP family join together and grow stronger! Take an active role in this process and make your mark!
Read MoreParents Learn More About NWEA MAP® Test
Today, perhaps more than ever, parents play an essential role in their child’s education. They are an active part of the teaching and learning process, which can be challenging, combined with all the other tasks of providing for a family.
Many parents joined the Director of Teaching and Learning to learn more about how they can support their child in school. The focus of this session was the NWEA MAP® test that is administered twice a year during the Fall and Spring semester. The MAP test is a growth assessment given to grades 1–10 students that provides data to help teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead.
During this session, parents gained a better understanding of how to read their child’s MAP progress report so they can continue to support their child’s growth.

Teach – Learn – Grow
The MAP® Growth™ assessment is a computer-adaptive assessment that adjusts to each student’s responses to provide personalized results about what each student knows, is able to do, and is ready to learn next—whether on, above, or below grade level. The MAP Growth assessment provides essential information about a student’s continuum of learning and growth trajectory. MAP Growth provides real-time information that helps teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead. We administer the test in the fall and spring for a consistent longitudinal measure of student growth. It offers a clear picture of your students’ learning and readiness for college. One report that we can provide parents is the “Student Progress Report”. Just as the title says, this report shows a student’s term-to-term growth and can be used to compare a student’s RIT scores to the district’s average score, as well as to national norms. The report outlines for students and parents the particular areas of strength and concern within the subjects of math, reading, language, or science. This report provides essential information that can be used to improve both teaching and learning and to provide essential communication with parents.

Why Model United Nations?
By: María Paula De La Hoz, 12th grade
In order to acquire 21st century jobs, one must first be able to master 21st century skills. Within an increasingly competitive job market, companies are starting to search for well rounded students that are able to master both soft and hard skills. Hard skills are those abilities that can be taught, such as proficiency in a foreign language or computer coding. Soft skills or “interpersonal skills” on the other hand, are those abilities which cannot be coached, but must be applied within an unadulterated environment. Therefore soft skills such as; communication, flexibility, time management, leadership and teamwork will reshape the requirements for new positions within the job market, and become an essential aspect for any employee’s curriculum. While the school is gradually starting to implement the mastery of these criticall skills into their syllabus, no other activity exploits these abilities like Model United Nations. Apart from being the only academic extracurricular activity the school possess, MUN club may become a solution for those perceptive students who are looking to develop these soft skills that the market is desperately searching for in their employers.
Model United Nations is a simulation of United Nations committees. Students will impersonate a certain delegation or political figure, whilst debating about topics of international importance and relevance to the social, political and economic circumstances of the time. Students who participate in any Model United Nations will subconsciously develop pivotal soft skills while learning how to seamlessly adapt to new and unexpected situations. Participants will expand and articulate their vocabulary, as their public speaking abilities flourish with each passing MUN simulation. Students will go from mumbling a semi-coherent proposal to adequately regulating their language to convey memorable interventions in their designated committees. Members will learn about contemporary problematics within the international community, and how to work alongside their peers to hypothetically solve them. Cooperation, leadership, and the power of persuasion are just a few of the various skills that students will develop once they participate in Model UN. Therefore Model United Nations will not only serve students as a way to develop soft skills, but as a platform in which they can master them.
Read MoreTiger Reading Challenge: Read 25 Books this School Year!
Research shows that adults who model children’s reading have a great impact on their motivation to read. This year, The Burton B. Fox Library wishes to invite the entire KCP community, including our staff, to participate in the “Tiger Reading Challenge”. Those who wish to participate should read 25 books during this school year, starting from July, 2019 until June 11, 2020.
To socialize and celebrate the books they are reading, participants will be given a “shelife” – a poster where they can write down the books they are reading. This poster should be proudly displayed in each person’s office so that it can be appreciated by teachers and students alike.
The books you choose are for you to enjoy. (You can take books from the library; we have something for everyone.) We want you to have fun reading!
This is a friendly competition that we hope will end up being an enriching experience for everyone. Winners will celebrate their achievement with a special gift from the library.
Remember that the ultimate goal is to motivate the entire KCP community to read. Let’s be outstanding reading models!

Most never see the tremendous work done behind the scenes that helps us accomplish our school Mission. The KCP family is forever grateful for the hard work and support of our Board of Directors for what we have accomplished, so far, and what we will accomplish in the near future.
KCP’s permanent improvement could not be possible without the volunteered time that our Board of Directors puts in to help guide our school. We are also thankful for the former board members who now make up our Board of Trustees and appreciate their continuing support!
Today we are particularly PROUD of belonging to this amazing family. After 5 years of careful planning and amazing teamwork, we inaugurated our marvelous new lab complex, with state-of-the-art chemistry, physics and biology classrooms that fit 30 students each!
During the ceremony, we honored Mr. Dierk Schnabel for his hard work in helping the vision become a reality. This tremendous project could have not been possible without the leadership of our Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, who completely support providing students with the best possible tools to achieve success! Senior Convivencia 2019
Over the weekend, Seniors participated in the traditional Convivencia, in Ubaté, Cundinamarca, meant for personal and group growth. They had the opportunity to challenge themselves and strengthen their teamwork skills. Among other activities, they visited caves and worked with ropes to face some of their individual fears. The activities focused on experiential pedagogy, teamwork challenges, physical and mental effort, and many group building exercises.
The Convivencia was carried out from a prospective point of view, which sought to provide students with resources to undertake the new challenges that they will soon begin to assume in their adult lives. They focused on their human development, their physical and intellectual abilities, their academic development , and their analytical and critical resources. They also worked on their vocational processes, reflecting upon the decisions that will lead them to start their university life.
