Art serving a Good Cause
On May 9th, KCP held its 3rd annual Art Show to showcase the best of our student’s talent. Set in the Burton B. Fox Library, the exhibition featured many artistic pieces that went from colorful paintings using different materials and techniques, to painted furniture pieces and table trays. Visitors had the opportunity to buy original artwork made by students from all grade levels while they enjoyed pleasant musical interpretations played by the School´s band. KCP also welcomed a talented group of guest artists which included Paulina Amin, Oswaldo Cantillo, Sofia Lapeira and a group of artisans from the Atlántico Department.
As part of KCP´s effort to provide integral education, we implement the Character Counts! Program, which is constantly applied through interdisciplinary projects such as this Art Show. The show was first conceived two years ago by students, as an opportunity to exhibit their artistic talent but its main goal is to contribute to the different social causes of our Community Service Program, which is also aligned with topics developed in our Social Sciences curriculum.
This year the Art Show managed to collect around 6 million pesos by selling over 200 original art pieces that were voluntarily donated by our students, exceeding the 4 million collected during the 2017 version of the show.. The money raised was destined to aid the San Antonio Asylum in Barranquilla, contributing so that elderly citizens could enjoy better living conditions. The resources were used to buy water dispensers, fans, adult diapers, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste and other personal hygiene elements.
