Meet Maria Cristina Gutierrez Casadiego, KCP Class of 2008. Maria has a Bachelor’s in Electronic Media from Universidad de los Andes, a master’s in Editing and Audiovisual Post Production from Escuela CENTA, and graduated with honors from the Visual Effects Program at the Vancouver Institute of Visual Media.

She currently resides in Vancouver, working with Weta FX as Lead Lighting Technical Director. Through her role as Lead Lighting TD, Maria has had the opportunity to work on amazing projects like Avatar: The Way of the Water, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and Ms. Marvel, to name a few. The skies are the limit for our tigers! Way to go, Maria Cristina!

We had the chance to talk to Maria Cristina about her time at KCP:

How has your KCP experience impacted your life and the choices you have made in your career?

Having been part of KCP helped me establish an international mindset. Being able to speak two languages comfortably opened a world of possibilities. This helped me adapt and appreciate different perspectives and cultures.

What advice would you give KCP students? And especially those who would like to take a career path similar to yours?

A film career is not impossible. Follow your heart and don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do. You are the only one who can put limits on your dreams. Don’t be afraid to be yourself and trust your own path. There’s not just one right path to follow, you’ll create your own as you go.

What are some of your best memories or experiences from your time at KCP?

My best memories from my time at KCP were all the activities that kept things fun and broke the routine. Things like the Halloween Festival, Talent Shows, PJs Day, Brownie Girl Scouts, and Friday movies in the Auditorium, to name a few. All these exciting activities fed my creativity.

What makes you proud to be a member of the KCP family?

I’ll always be grateful for being part of the KCP family as it gave me the tools to discover my interests, and passions and cultivate my point of view.
