Giovanna Danies, Class of 2004

After graduation at KCP, Giovanna Danies, Class of 2004, received her BSc. In Biology, Microbiology and Biological Sciences from Universidad de Los Andes. She later completed her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Cornell University

What are you currently doing?

Assistant professor in the School of Architecture and Design at Universidad de Los Andes

What is your greatest professional or personal achievement to date?

Obtained the Barbara McClintock Award. This is an annual award established by the McClintock family in 1992 to honor outstanding senior graduate students studying in the Plant Sciences (Plant Biology, Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology, Plant Breeding, Horticulture or Crop and Soil Sciences) at Cornell University. Students are selected based on their academic, research, teaching and outreach achievements as well as on their potential to continue an outstanding career in the Plant Sciences.

How did KCP prepare you for your career?

KCP provided me the tools that have allowed me to succeed in multiple stages of my career. It gave me an international setting, taught me the importance of having a balanced life and a network of amazing alumni and teachers.

Why are you proud to be KCP?

KCP provides cutting edge K-12 education. Has great academic infrastructure, sports and artistic facilities. International professors and students.

What advice would you give KCP students?

To take advantage of the different activities the school organizes. Activities that range from academic competitions to sports, theater, and musicals.
