Manuel Trujillo Saad – Class of 2004

KCP Alumni Profiles, Publications, Sin categoría

We want to highlight the KCP Class of 2004 ,Manuel Trujillo Saad’s role as Head of International Relations at Alcaldía de Barranquilla. Manuel is an Economist and Political Scientist from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from The London School of Economics (LSE).

We had the chance to speak to Manuel about his time at KCP and about his current role at the Mayor’s Office.

Check out our interview.

What are some of your best memories or experiences from your time at KCP?

There are too many to count, but I certainly cherish working in a couple of theatre productions during middle school and high school. Graduation Day was also special as we did an unexpected twist during the ceremony in which we recognized every single member of the Class of 2004.

How has your KCP experience impacted your life and the choices you have made in your career?

Studying at KCP gave me all the tools I needed to go to the U.S. for my undergraduate studies.  My teachers and counselors at KCP constantly pushed me to pursue this goal.

I cannot overstate how much math class with Mrs. Rubio prepared me for university life! It helped me become really good at math and certainly influenced my choice to study Economics as one of my majors.

What advice would you give KCP students?

Make the most of your time while you’re there and try a bit of everything! Take a music class, try out theater, join a sports team, run for Student Council. One of the cool things about KCP is that it really lets you explore different interests, and get a well-rounded education that will help you stand out from the crowd.

Can you tell us a little bit about your plans as Head of International Relations for the Alcaldia of Barranquilla?

The Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla didn’t have a department for international relations up until now. Our main objective is to work with other countries on development projects that positively impact the lives of Barranquilleros. During the next few years, we will work with them to design and implement international cooperation initiatives that position our city as an emerging Global City.

The world is starting to set its eyes on Barranquilla. The international community recognizes the progress made in recent years and sees us as a partner whom they can trust. The new Office of International Relations is there to lend a hand and make sure this goodwill translates into action.

What makes you proud to be a member of the KCP community?

I started at KCP when I was just 2 years old (did STEM twice!) and graduated following my 18th birthday, so I think it’s safe to say that I’m a proud member of the KCP family! I’m particularly proud of my former classmates who are now doing great things all around the world and setting a good example for the community.
