At KCP we promote culture, seeking to develop our student´s multiple artistic potentials, while continuing with our tradition of encouraging musical and artistic studies as part of our holistic educational program.
On April 13, 2018, Colegio Karl C. Parrish opened its doors to the entire student community of Barranquilla to enjoy together our School’s II National Rock and Pop Music Festival; a competition that seeks to bring together students from different schools to showcase the best of young talent. During this second version of the Festival, more than 50 students performed live, delighting the audience of almost 300 people with their own interpretation of varied musical pieces. Families and friends of the different bands enjoyed an incredible evening outdoors, that was a unique opportunity for young musical groups to have a platform to exhibit passion for music.
This artistic competition was first set due to the initiative of KCP’s students, who wished to have an event that would enable them to exhibit their talent, while providing other school delegations with the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. This year the competition brought together 6 school bands from Barranquilla, that included Altamira International School, British International School, American School, Colegio San José, Marymount School and Colegio Karl C. Parrish. Each band had to interpret 4 rock or pop musical pieces and the audience was pleasantly surprised as they listening to excellent personal interpretations of songs like Sunday Morning by Maroon 5, Quiero Verte Sonreir by Carlos Vives, Wonderwall by Oasis and Grenade by Bruno Mars, among others.
Our school’s band was made up with students from grades 9 to 12th, who have been working together and designing their musical work since last year. They demonstrated their interpretative skills in electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums, among other instruments and their impressive performance earned them the first place in this year’s competition, followed by British School who earned second place. The winners were chosen by a specialized jury with ample musical performance experience.
In this second edition, KCP also invited two bands in charge of opening and closing the event: Global Music Band, from Universidad del Norte, which delighted participants with Pop music, and Parentella, a project of family and friends, all music lovers, who performed pieces of contemporary pop. In terms of sound production, the Festival had the support of one of the best companies nationwide that attend to large events of this type.
